School Awards

Longdean School has specialist Maths & Computing status, and converted to an Academy in August 2011.

In our drive to improve standards we have applied for and achieved several additional standards which have allowed us to maintain our focus:

International School Status

It is vital to us that students develop a global understanding of the world they live in so that they have a greater cultural knowledge that helps them to make informed choices throughout their life.  This has been a great success as evidenced by students visiting various countries such as Iceland, Slovakia, America, Costa Rica, Swaziland, Zambia/Botswana, and India Himalayas, as well as our established link with Bedomase School in Ghana.

Co-operative Schools Network

Longdean Academy is proud to be a member of the Co-operative Schools Network and the Schools Co-operative Society.  We work according to the international co-operative values and principles, seeking to achieve the very best for every member of our learning community.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

For the past seven decades, the DofE Charity has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.  Longdean School has been running the scheme in its current format for 5 years, offering bronze and silver awards.  When the scheme was first set up in the 1950s, the school was one of the first to run the award, prompting a visit to the school by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1959.
