Key Stage 4

Year 9, 10 and 11

Students follow a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, French or Spanish (W and X only), ICT (Y and Z only), Social Sciences and Games. Students choose four option subjects. One of these is a “3-year option” – that is, it is studied for three years and the exam is taken at the end of year 11. For their 3-year option, students choose one of Computer Science, Geography, History and Triple Science. The other three options are “one-year options” – that is, each one is studied for one year and the exam is taken at the end of that year (one in year 9, one in year 10 and one in year 11). Most of these option groups will have a mixture of year 9, 10 and 11 students in them. The choices available for the one-year options last year was: Art, Business (GCSE and CTEC), Child Care, Design Technology, Engineering, Fashion/Textiles, Film Studies, Geography, History, Hospitality & Catering, Music, PE (GCSE and BTEC), Performing Arts (Dance or Drama), Photography, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Systems & Control, Travel & Tourism. Students discuss their choices during a meeting with a senior member of staff, and are allowed to change their minds during years 9 and 10.
